Future of the Montreal Canadiens: Kent Hughes Makes a Highly Concerning Statement

The Hlinka-Gretzky tournament, held annually in August, serves as a precursor for scouts to compile their prospect lists for the next year's draft.

This is especially relevant for the Canadiens, who will have 12 picks this year and 23 in the next two drafts. Monitoring prospects is crucial for their future.

However, according to Kent Hughes himself, the Canadiens' scouts are not very enthusiastic. While their excitement has improved, it remains concerning.

"Kent Hughes on the @GotYerBackPod says that after the Hlinka in the summer, his scouts weren't "enthused" about the top end players in the #2024NHLDraft but that they've warmed up as of January.

Who/what may he be referring to?"

Hughes has liquidated many assets in the last two years to acquire draft picks. If the team is not excited about what they see, it could significantly complicate the rebuilding process.

The only positive point that could make the scouts more enthusiastic is that the plan was not to finish among the 10 worst teams, which will evidently be the case. The first-round pick will be better than anticipated.
