The relationship between the Canadiens and the Hurricanes hasn't been easy in recent years. Although the dust has settled with a complete change in the Canadiens' management, the Hurricanes' front office remains intact, and they may not hold Montreal in high regard.
It's understandable, but at some point, everyone needs to move on, and I don't believe the Hurricanes still harbor resentment towards the Canadiens, especially with the respected figures of Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton now leading the way.
That being said, despite having a good season and almost securing a playoff spot, the Hurricanes might have to trade their third-highest scorer by the trade deadline.
This seems to be the case with Martin Necas. The Hurricanes and Necas are reportedly having difficulty reaching an agreement on a contract extension, as he is set to become a restricted free agent. The team might not have the financial means to offer him the desired contract.
One solution for the Hurricanes is to trade Jesperi Kotkaniemi. However, with his inconsistency and a contract extending until 2030, he might not be very appealing to other teams.
