How Mike Matheson Silenced His Critics and Became a Key Piece for the Canadiens

Barely a year ago, Mike Matheson was without a doubt one of the most criticized players on the Montreal Canadiens.
His turnovers were often the talk of the town, his defensive play was frequently questioned, and many fans were even calling for a trade.
I have to admit, I was among his critics at times.
But today, the roles are completely reversed.
Mike Matheson and Noah Dobson Become a Defensive Pillar for the Montreal Canadiens
Last night, analyst David Calabrese wrote on X:
"An apology is owed to Mike Matheson from a lot of Habs fans."
And it's hard not to agree with him.
Since the start of the season, Matheson has recorded three goals and three assists in ten games while averaging over 23 minutes of ice time per game.
That's an incredible performance!
His stats perfectly reflect his impact.
His play has completely transformed since the arrival of Dobson, his new partner on the blue line.
I find that the two complement each other perfectly.
Matheson drives the transition, while Dobson provides coverage and makes that quick first pass.
It's an intelligent, mobile, and disciplined duo.
In my opinion, Montreal hasn't seen such a balanced defensive pairing in a very long time.
I honestly think he's becoming one of the Canadiens' silent leaders in the locker room. The younger players seem to truly appreciate him.
And this resurgence is no coincidence.
I'm certain it's the result of patience, experience, and the obvious chemistry he's built with Dobson.
