It's now confirmed for Kent Hughes, and it's really interesting for the Montreal Canadiens.

Indeed, Pierre LeBrun has already announced in the past few days that Hughes has contacted the Hurricanes to inquire about the asking price for Martin Necas.

That's already very good news, but there's more. According to the insider, Hughes is in the thick of the battle among 6 or 7 teams to acquire him.

LeBrun on Necas (Insider Trading): «I'm told 5-7 teams invite intriguing possibilities for the Hurricanes, but no one has gone up to the price they'd like to see. Winnipeg.. Chicago, Boston, Montreal among the teams that have inquired»

This means that an offer may have already been submitted by Kent Hughes. That's significant.

However, the Hurricanes haven't received the awaited offer yet, but time is ticking, and they could find themselves in hot water.

Necas is eligible to receive an offer sheet, which would complicate things for the Hurricanes. They can't afford to keep him due to the salary cap, so they wouldn't be able to match an offer.

Their only choice is to trade him before July 1st, and other GMs know this very well.

Is Kent Hughes' offer the best for the Hurricanes? Will he increase his offer?

It's important to note that Hughes also talked with Pat Verbeek, the Ducks GM, for Trevor Zegras, and the latter was seen with Martin St-Louis in New York, at the gym, and they seemed very close.

I don't know what will happen by the end of the summer, but something significant is brewing, and it's major. Kent Hughes has his nose everywhere, and it's very interesting.
