Jeff Gorton disavows a choice made by Timmins and Bergevin
A few hours before the National Hockey League draft, Jeff Gorton, Vice President of Hockey Operations, announced Jesse Ylonen's departure during his press conference in Las Vegas.
In a way, he caused a surprise. The 24-year-old Finn was never able to secure a regular spot in the top-9 as Marc Bergevin had predicted when he was selected in 2018.
"Jesse Ylonen will not receive a qualifying offer from the Montreal Canadiens and will become an unrestricted free agent." - Renaud Lavoie, TVA Sports
This means that the Finn, who played 59 games this season with the Canadiens, will become an unrestricted free agent. During this campaign, Ylonen scored four goals and added four assists. This production was deemed insufficient, and the team's hopes seem to have surpassed the 35th pick of the 2018 draft.
