Some big new has just been confirmed regarding Juraj Slafkovsky.
On Monday, the NHL named him the third star of the week ending Sunday, December 28. Nikita Kucherov was named first star with six points in three games. Eeli Tolvanen was second, also with six points.
For Montreal, Slafkovsky recorded five points-three goals and two assists-in two games.
On Tuesday against the Boston Bruins, he posted one goal and one assist in a 6-2 win. On Sunday in Tampa Bay, he added two goals and one assist in a 5-4 shootout loss. His tying goal came with 3.8 seconds remaining in the third period.
This season, he has totaled 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points in 38 games. The Montreal Canadiens hold a 20-12-6 record and 46 points, just one point behind Tampa Bay.
The club is on a streak of five straight games with at least one point since December 18.
His big contract will officially kick in for the 2025-2026 season, following an eight-year extension signed on July 1, 2024.
The deal is worth a total of $60.8 million, with an average annual value of $7.6 million. In 2025-2026, his total compensation will be $10 million, including $7 million in signing bonuses.
It's also worth recalling his 2024-2025 season of 51 points, a career-high output for him. Slafkovsky remains the first overall pick from 2022, and he just reminded the entire league of that fact-at exactly the right time.
