The GM could take a vacation, but he hasn't yet, and now that things are quiet in the NHL, he continues to work because he is passionate about his role.
Indeed, Hughes is currently in Edmonton for the Hlinka/Gretzky Cup. He traveled there when he could have delegated the task to Nick Bobrov, Martin Lapointe, or even another scout.
If that's not dedication to his team, I don't know what is. Even Don Waddell recently mentioned that he's trying to trade Patrik Laine but isn't receiving calls because NHL GMs are on vacation.
Looking at what the GM has accomplished since he took office, it's truly remarkable, and we understand more and more why. He's simply addicted to work, involved in every detail, and very creative.
