Major trade between the Anaheim Ducks and the Montreal Canadiens: Star forward Trevor Zegras is involved in a monumental proposal

It's hard to deny: the link between the Montreal Canadiens and Trevor Zegras is very real. The excitement is palpable on both sides.

Several reputable insiders have even confirmed mutual interest, and The Athletic's journalist Shayna Goldman even mentioned that the Habs are at the top of the list.

Furthermore, it has been confirmed by Frank Seravalli that Zegras is currently on the market, and Pat Verbeek is trying to trade him.

A fan, who has been very active on X for many years, proposed a concrete trade to bring Zegras to Montreal.

In MONTREAL:

Trevor Zegras

To ANAHEIM:

2024 1st-round pick from Winnipeg (22nd to 32nd overall)
2025 1st-round pick from Calgary or Florida (acquired for free by hosting Sean Monahan)
Sean Farrell
Justin Barron

It may seem like a lot when looking at it this way, but in reality, it's not as bad when you break it down.

Firstly, the Ducks have the advantage of being patient, as Zegras still has two years left on his contract. Pat Verbeek will certainly wait for the right offer, so it will likely come at a high cost, especially now.

Secondly, the Canadiens have five first-round picks in the next three years. The ones offered will likely be towards the end of the round and were acquired for free thanks to Sean Monahan.

Thirdly, Justin Barron has good potential, but there are other candidates in the organization who are just as, if not more, interesting. I don't believe anyone is mourning the loss of Barron, and ultimately, not of Sean Farrell either.

Would you make this trade?
