It would be very surprising for the Canadiens to make the playoffs this year. Yes, the team is playing at .500, but it's far from enough, especially considering the lack of depth at center and up front.

The defenseman is very valuable to his team, and his style of play (warrior-like) is built for the playoffs. The return could be significant, which is why he might have a chance of being traded.

If Kent Hughes receives a very strong offer, the kind he can't refuse, he will trade him. Otherwise, it would be very surprising, according to Pierre LeBrun.

LeBrun on Insider Trading: «I don't believe the Montreal Canadiens want to trade David Savard, I think they value him for all kinds of reasons within the organization If someone sends them an offer that really makes them think, then yea, he could be dealt but at the moment he's not a player the Habs bring up to other teams, they're not committed to trading him»

So, Savard is not on the market, but if a trade were to happen, expect it to be significant. It would certainly be bigger than the Sean Monahan trade.
