Michel Bergeron did not digest the embarrassing defeat of the Canadiens Thursday night at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

On the airwaves of JiCi Lajoie's show, he allowed himself some very blunt criticism directed at a young star forward.
The last preseason game of the Montreal Canadiens, played Thursday at the Bell Centre, ended in a crushing 7-2 defeat against a lineup that looked more like an American Hockey League team.
This particularly embarrassing performance, during which Martin St-Louis' men offered no notable resistance and committed glaring defensive mistakes due to a lack of intensity, recalled the worst moments of the team's rebuild.
Even in preseason, such a blowout against a weak opponent raises questions about the group's preparation and cohesion.

Michel Bergeron harshly criticizes the Montreal Canadiens and targets Juraj Slafkovsky in particular

The fiery commentator and former coach of the Nordiques and the Rangers was in no mood to joke during his appearance on Jean-Charles Lajoie's show yesterday.
"Yesterday, it was a disgrace. In front of their fans, against a 'D' team, not a 'C'. I couldn't name you five of the players who were in uniform for the Leafs last night. I'd like someone in the organization, whether it's Jeff Gorton, Kent Hughes, or Martin St-Louis, to step up and say 'hey, that's enough now.' When you play at home, you don't have the right to deliver such a performance."

In addition to this scathing criticism of the team's overall play, Michel Bergeron also singled out Juraj Slafkovsky in particular, whose post-game comments he did not like at all.
"I heard Slafkovsky say after the game 'I hope we'll learn from this defeat.' Learn what? You've been in the league for four years! I can't take it."

At least the Canadiens will have the chance to redeem themselves tonight, at Scotiabank Arena, against a Leafs lineup stronger than the one seen on Thursday.
