Six Players Still in the Running for the Canadiens' Final Three Roster Spots
The Montreal Canadiens training camp is starting to wind down, which means it's time for the final cuts.
The race for the final spots is heating up at the Montreal Canadiens camp as Xhekaj, Beck, Veleno, Kapanen, Blais, and Farrell try to convince management that they deserve to be part of the starting lineup.
Although these are never the easiest moments, it also means the regular season is approaching.
Xhekaj, Beck, Veleno, Kapanen, Blais, and Farrell still battling for the final spots on the Montreal Canadiens
"F. Xhekaj, Beck, Veleno, Kapanen, Blais and Farrell remain as competition for the final three spots.
On defense, Del Gaizo, Clurman and Engstrom remain for the ride.
Should see more cuts by mid week and the final few next Saturday after games."
- Marco D'Amico
I find this type of battle always interesting to follow, as it reflects the internal competition that Kent Hughes and Martin St. Louis want to establish.
Florian Xhekaj wants to prove he can be more than just a physical player and provide stability on defense.
Beck, for his part, impresses with his maturity and responsible play despite his young age.
Veleno, acquired this summer, wants to show that he can be a reliable option at center and bring veteran presence.
Kapanen and Blais, both with NHL experience, need to convince that they can provide immediate depth.
Finally, I think Farrell is trying to make his mark with his offensive creativity, even if his small size raises questions.
Soon, I think we will have a better idea of who will survive this final wave of cuts.
