As you've likely seen, the Canadiens announced that they traded Jake Allen to the New Jersey Devils earlier today.
The information came out bit by bit, but all the details are now known.
We knew that the Canadiens receive a conditional 3rd-round pick in 2025 and retain 50% of the goaltender's salary. Remember that Allen has one year left on his contract.
The condition for this pick was revealed later, and here it is. If Allen plays 40 games or more next year, it becomes a 2nd-round pick. Given the goaltending challenges the Devils have faced this year, there's no doubt that this is a very possible scenario.
