Martin St-Louis supports Jakub Dobes after an emotional loss to the New Jersey Devils.
The 4-3 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils could have been told in a thousand different ways...
The game was tight, the Canadiens worked hard afterward, came back into it twice, and kept pace with one of the best teams in the league, in my opinion.
But it's what happened after the game that really drew everyone's attention.
Jakub Dobes, who had his first difficult outing since the start of the season, looked very sad.
Indeed, when he met with the media, his eyes were visibly wet, and his voice was fragile.
"We played good enough to win. Just not good enough from my side. I don't know, just really hard. This is a tough one."
- Jakub Dobes
A reaction that shows the human culture of the Montreal Canadiens
Asked about his goaltender's reaction, the coach didn't talk about mistakes, technique, or adjustments.
He didn't deliver a cold speech about emotional management.
On the contrary, he chose the human approach. St-Louis simply replied:
"We're going to give him a pat."
"The guys don't get here by accident. They're shaped in a way that takes them to levels not everyone reaches. That's how he deals with his emotions.
We're here to support him."
- Martin St-Louis
Dobes was hurting yesterday. But he wasn't hurting alone. And that can make all the difference moving forward.
