Expect a lot of movement today: Kent Hughes and other GMs have a good reason to make moves
The NHL freeze on player movements will take effect tonight at 11:59 PM for the holiday period. This means that until December 28, no transactions will be allowed, and no players will be subject to waivers.
Furthermore, the conditions allowing movements between the NHL and the AHL are limited, which will encourage teams to make moves.
Most teams have two or three games to play during this period, such as the Canadiens, who play on December 21 and 22. Therefore, it's expected that there will be some activity today.
For Kent Hughes and the Canadiens, it's the last day before Christmas to trade a goaltender. December 25th was set as the deadline to resolve the matter, according to many observers.
Unless there's a surprise, Kent Hughes is unlikely to settle this matter today, which has been dragging on for far too long. It would be very surprising if the GM makes a move today, but in the rest of the NHL, it's a different story.
Stay tuned...
