Return to play for Carter Hart, Dillon Dube, Michael McLeod, and Cal Foote: the possible date would be known, and it will be a long time

While formal charges are being brought against the four NHL players involved in the 2018 Team Canada junior scandal (Alex Formenton, the 5th player, is playing in Europe), the question arises regarding their possible return to play.

According to Eric Macramalla, a legal expert, it will take a considerable amount of time.

"Do not expect Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube and Cal Foote to return to the NHL after being charged. The NHL is likely to place them on paid leave pending the disposition of the case. Depending on how the case resolves, the NHL could then discipline the players." - Eric Macramalla, legal expert

When is the trial?

Naturally, everything will depend on their sentence and whether they are found guilty or not, but we have a fairly major clue. Journalist Rick Westhead is diligently working on this case to provide us with information.

He is the one providing information bit by bit, and he is doing an excellent job. According to him, the trial will not begin before 2026.

This means that the players should miss at least two seasons from now, and theoretically, if declared innocent, they could return to play for the 2026-27 season.
