What needs to be understood is that the NHL (the owners) paid for years to keep the Coyotes afloat, and when it finally came time to relocate them, Bettman paid a hefty sum to the owner to revive the organization.
He then sold the team for $1.2 billion, and the $200 million was shared among the current owners.
For the wealthy individuals who have spent considerable sums over the years for the Coyotes, this is insulting and the straw that breaks the camel's back.
The Ottawa Senators have already shown their displeasure by announcing a big trade 15 minutes before Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, Connor McDavid never showed up to accept the Conn Smythe Trophy... How far will it have to go for Bettman to leave?
It has become a real farce. In one week, the NHL presented the Stanley Cup Final, the individual awards ceremony, the draft, and the opening of the free agency market.
Four major events presented in the same week is really bad for the league's marketing.
