A former Montreal Canadiens player is making headlines again after a trade between the St. Louis Blues and the Washington Capitals.

The name Corey Schueneman is resurfacing in the hockey world - and it's sure to bring a smile to a few Canadiens fans.
The former Tricolore defenseman was traded by the St. Louis Blues to the Washington Capitals in a minor transaction - the kind that doesn't usually make headlines but still catches the attention of those who followed his journey in Laval and Montreal.
Schueneman has always struck me as a guy who works hard to stay in the picture.
At 30 years old, he moves between the NHL and the AHL, never really giving up.
This time, he's heading to Hershey to join the Capitals' farm team, the Bears. And honestly, I really hope he manages to carve out a spot for himself there again.

The Washington Capitals acquire Corey Schueneman from the St. Louis Blues

The news was confirmed by the Capitals themselves on their social media accounts.
"The Washington Capitals have acquired defenseman Corey Schueneman from the St. Louis Blues for defenseman Calle Rosen. Schueneman will report to the Hershey Bears."

On the other side, Calle Rosen is heading to Springfield, the Blues' farm team. The two defensemen have fairly similar profiles, in my opinion.
They're reliable veterans, good teammates, and capable of providing solid support in the AHL when stability is needed.
One small difference, though: salary.
Schueneman costs the organization a bit less ($425,000 compared to $525,000 for Rosen). Those small details matter - especially for teams managing multiple contracts.
Before the trade, Schueneman was actually off to a good start this season in Springfield, with six points in nine games.
Nothing explosive, but definitely solid.
He also played 35 games with the Canadiens between 2022 and 2023, and many remember his reliability on the blue line. Nothing flashy, but always steady and focused!
In my opinion, he still deserves another shot at proving himself in the NHL. Players like him never give up.
