In recent years, the Canadiens have been widely criticized by journalists and fans due to the low number of Quebecer players drafted by the club. Indeed, the last time the organization selected a Quebecer in the first round was back in 2009, when Bob Gainey set his sights on forward Louis Leblanc.

While the strategy is always to draft the most talented player, the Canadiens nevertheless preferred Filip Mesar to Tristan Luneau last year. The defenseman, born in Victoriaville, had an exceptional season with the Gatineau Olympiques this season, accumulating 83 points in 65 games.

However, this situation could well change in the upcoming draft. Indeed, the Canadiens could possibly select Sherbrooke Phoenix's forward, Ethan Gauthier, with the Florida Panthers' choice (31st or 32nd).

According to numerous draft lists, Gauthier is ranked towards the end of the first round. The right winger is extremely fast and has excellent game vision, having collected 30 goals and 39 assists alongside Joshua Roy this year. He also accumulated six goals and an assist in five games with the Canadian U18 team during the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

The 18-year-old has undeniable talent and is seen by many experts as a very promising prospect. Do you believe that the Canadiens should draft him on June 28th, or should the organization absolutely select the best player available according to the evaluations they made over the past year?
