Before the last draft in June, the future in the Canadiens' goal crease looked quite thin. Prospects were not standing out, and the organization had just let go of a few goalies.
Fowler wasn't even in the top 5 goalies drafted last June, but he has since been ranked 2nd among them. In fact, he is ranked 6th among the top goalie prospects behind Jesper Wallstedt (21 years old), Dustin Wolf (22 years old), Yaroslav Askarov (21 years old), Alexei Kolosov (22 years old), and Trey Augustine, his compatriot with the United States. Fowler is only 19 years old.
Not only did he win a gold medal with the United States a few days ago, but Jacob also has had a dream start to his career with Boston College in the NCAA, with a record of 13-3-1, a save percentage of 0.925, and a goals-against average of 2.16.
These are veteran-like statistics, and we're talking about a rookie. Fowler is seen as the next Jake Oettinger or Thatcher Demko, no less. Considering the success they have had with the Stars and the Canucks, this is very encouraging.
