It's known that the Maple Leafs offered a 6th-round pick for Allen, and according to Pierre LeBrun, other teams have also offered late-round picks. There is interest, but not at the asking price.
Wilde adds that the Canadiens have so many quality prospects and other good picks coming in the next few years that a late-round pick doesn't hold much value. It shouldn't change much for the current or projected lineup in five years, and I tend to agree. However, the three-way rotation must stop.
If Hughes is indeed able to get so much for Allen or Primeau, it will be quite a home run. The Canadiens' GM was in a vulnerable position, and it seems like he's able to turn the situation to his advantage.
