Major transaction between the Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers involving Jake Allen: negotiations are underway
Things are not going well in Edmonton. While the offense can be explosive, the defense and, more notably, the goaltenders have clearly not been performing for too long.
By placing Jack Campbell on waivers earlier this week, they opened the door to the possibility of acquiring another goaltender. Fans of the Canadiens immediately made a possible connection between Kent Hughes and Ken Holland.
It turns out this is entirely true, and it is known that Jake Allen is the targeted goalie for the Oilers. The veteran is still capable of delivering excellent hockey while being a quality leader.
Elliotte Friedman confirmed that there are indeed discussions between Kent Hughes and Ken Holland.
"[The Oilers], they have talked to Montreal, who do not need a goaltender in return, about the possibility of trading Jake Allen. [...]"

It seems that Jordan Binnington and Juuse Saros are also potential targets for the Oilers. The chances of Saros leaving Nashville are quite slim, as he is seen as the future for Barry Trotz. Binnington has a less-than-enthusiastic reputation, something McDavid's team doesn't need during this stormy period.
For these reasons, the chances of Allen leaving are quite good. It is now up to Kent Hughes to find common ground with his counterpart.
