The fans of the Montreal Canadiens are the target of a prominent host, and it's causing a lot of buzz
Do you know the podcast Spittin' Chiclets? It's the most popular hockey podcast globally, hosted by Ryan Whitney and Paul Bissonnette, among others.
During Saturday night's game at the Bell Centre, fans vociferously booed
Connor McDavid whenever he touched the puck, which was quite frequent.
The host didn't hold back in delivering a message that stirred strong reactions:
"All these moron Canadien fans booing Mcjesushere's the game winning assist right in your face"
- Ryan Whitney
This statement has sparked significant controversy, with many fans feeling that Whitney went too far. Especially considering a previous post where the host acknowledged fans paying high ticket prices and their right to express themselves by booing.
Some fans also pointed out that controversial goals and two power plays late in the game played a role in McDavid and his team's victory.
In Montreal, it's widely understood, and many athletes have stated, that boos are a sign of respect meant to distract a dominant player. Calling fans "morons" and "idiots" for this crosses a significant line.
