Arber Xhekaj traded: it's a likely scenario for the Canadiens

In Montreal, we all love Arber Xhekaj. What he brings to the Canadiens is unique, but he could very well be traded nonetheless.

This is what Max Truman mentions, who spoke to a very credible source within the Canadiens organization.

"Trustworthy individuals informed me this morning that Xhekaj's future with the Canadiens isn't as bright as a starry sky in broad daylight. Metaphor for Monday's weather."

It's known that offers are very enticing for the defenseman and what he can bring to a team. His style of play and recurring shoulder injuries could lead to his departure from Montreal.

"Will Kent Hughes decide to part ways with Arber Xhekaj during the offseason as he did with Alexander Romanov two years ago? There's a surplus of left-handed defensemen in Montreal, there were good offers on the table for Xhekaj not too long ago (a first-round pick or a quality prospect?) and the Habs need reinforcements up front.

[...] The person I spoke to IN PRIVATE this morning is far too credible for me to dismiss out of hand." - Maxime Truman

The risk in all of this is that Xhekaj is a fan favorite, and his younger brother signed his entry-level contract with the NHL on Tuesday. Fans would be furious to see him go, especially as he was becoming quite dangerous alongside David Savard.

Truman issues a warning to Chantal Machabée and the entire organization.

"A little advice to Chantal and her subordinates: prepare a well-thought-out communications plan to explain the Arber Xhekaj trade if it indeed happens." - Maxime Truman

If Xhekaj does leave this summer, it will cause panic, and Kent Hughes better make sure to acquire one or more players who are worth it.
