The list of players placed on waivers has just been released, and it includes a few interesting surprises.
In my opinion, the most notable name is
Victor Soderstrom, a mobile defenseman selected 11th overall in 2019 by the Coyotes.
He is part of the Bruins organization and has never really managed to establish himself, but he still represents an intriguing gamble for a potential team.
Another interesting name is
Riley Tufte, a former first-round pick of Dallas in 2016, also placed on waivers.
A Waiver List Full of Intriguing Names and a Decision Coming for the Montreal Canadiens
Every year at this time of the season, the waiver wire surprises with players who were still believed capable of contributing in the NHL.
This time, it's Soderstrom, a former high draft pick, who is drawing all the attention.
The Canadiens aren't the only club that might be tempted, as several teams lack depth on the blue line. With an 80-plus game season, it's clear that you can never have too many solid players in your organization.
In Tufte's case, he's another player who could attract a team looking for size and physicality.
Even though he has never broken through in Dallas, his status as a former first-round pick makes him a low-risk gamble.
It would not be surprising if Kent Hughes takes a close look at Soderstrom.
Otherwise, another team could very likely claim one of these two talented players.
Here are the players that were claimed around the league:
