Canadiens Face Big Decision as Lane Hutson Contract Rumors Heat Up
Lane Hutson's contract situation has been fueling rumors for the past few weeks.
To the point where a statement from journalist Frank Seravalli raised concerns for many people this week.
For those who may not have seen it, Seravalli's statement suggests that Lane Hutson is not interested in signing a long-term deal with the Canadiens.
Frank Seravalli: "The Canadiens are more than willing to step up and write a cheque for Lane Hutson to be a Canadien for a long long time; I just don't know what the Hutson appetite is on that end" - Bleacher Report
While some have already begun speculating about Lane Hutson's real desire to stay in Montreal long term. Others are calling on Kent Hughes to sign him to a salary higher than the one given to
Noah Dobson, and journalist Marco D'Amico is far from hitting the panic button.
"Lane Hutson would very much like to spend his entire career in Montreal"
According to D'Amico, who made one of his regular appearances on the Shaun Starr Show, Lane Hutson's desire to play in Montreal is unquestionable and has nothing to do with the fact that he has not yet signed a contract.
The journalist goes even further, stating that if he could, Hutson would sign for more years than the collective agreement allows.
"My feeling is that if Lane Hutson could sign a 16-year contract today, he would do it."
Marco D'Amico
D'Amico's comments were just reported by Félix Forget from the site DansLesCoulisses, and let's just say they will certainly reassure quite a few people.
After all, no rookie in the modern history of the Canadiens has had as much impact as Lane Hutson did in his first season last year.
So, we're all crossing our fingers that his signing on the dotted line of a long-term contract is just a formality and that we'll see plays like the one in the video below for many years to come.
