Alex Galchenyuk continues his professional career in Russia, where he has now been playing for two years in the KHL.
After a long stint in North America, marked by numerous team changes, the 31-year-old forward seems to have found an environment better suited to his needs and style of play.
Drafted third overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2012, Galchenyuk never managed to establish himself permanently in the NHL. Between 2018 and 2024, he wore the uniform of seven different teams, which clearly illustrates the unstable nature of his career during that period. It was only by moving to Russia that he finally regained a certain level of continuity.
The 2025-2026 season will also mark a first for him since leaving the Canadiens: he will wear the same jersey for a second consecutive year. This newfound stability comes with an additional responsibility.
A New Role for Alex Galchenyuk in the KHL, but His Father Faces Criticism for the Decision
According to Championnat.com, Khabarovsk's Amur team has named him captain for the upcoming campaign, a sign that his influence now extends beyond his offensive contributions.
For Galchenyuk Jr., this appointment represents a significant recognition after tumultuous years. It could also help him consolidate his place as a leading figure for Amur, a role he had not had the opportunity to occupy during his numerous NHL stints.
While many North American players choose the KHL as a temporary stepping stone, Galchenyuk seems to have found a true home there.
