Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Josh Gorges is making a return to where it all began for him in junior hockey.

This new role carries special meaning for the former player, as he wore the Rockets' colors for four seasons between 2000 and 2004.
At the time, Gorges quickly established himself as a team leader, guiding Kelowna to the Memorial Cup championship in 2004.
His number 5 was retired by the organization in recognition of his impact both on and off the ice.
After his junior career, Gorges enjoyed a long NHL career, including nine years with the Montreal Canadiens. A reliable defenseman respected for his courage and selflessness, he remained a fan favorite in Montreal. Gorges finally retired from hockey in 2019 after 13 NHL seasons.

A Meaningful Return to His Roots

For Gorges, returning to Kelowna is not just a professional move but also a heartfelt choice. Still living in the area after his retirement, he has maintained close ties with the community and the Rockets organization.
This new role will allow him to pass on to young players the values and work ethic that defined his own career.
"Josh brings a championship pedigree, NHL experience, and deep ties to this city and our organization," said Rockets President and General Manager Bruce Hamilton. "He's lived the Kelowna Rockets standard and understands what it takes to win here. We're thrilled to bring him back in this new role."

The Rockets hope his presence behind the bench will inspire their young defensemen and add an extra layer of leadership to the locker room.
By rejoining his former junior team, Josh Gorges comes full circle on a remarkable story while starting a new chapter-as a mentor. A natural transition for a player who has always embodied competitiveness and team spirit.
