Jakub Dobes Draft Reimagined: Huge Surprise Shakes Up the Rankings
The past year has been full of emotions for Jakub Dobes, as he made his NHL debut and quickly won the hearts of Montreal Canadiens fans.
For fun, we decided to redo the Dobes draft, and he climbed significantly in the rankings!
While Marc Bergevin and Trevor Timmins had a few very difficult years in the NHL drafts, they made several excellent moves in the 2020 class.
At 16th overall in the first round, Kaiden Guhle was a very good pick and remains an important part of Montreal's defensive corps.
Forward Sean Farrell was selected 124th overall and remains a player to watch within the organization. Next year will be very important for him, and hopefully he can elevate his game to secure a spot with the big club.
Luke Tuch, picked 47th overall, is an interesting choice, and we're excited to see him in 2025-26. The 6'2», 215-pound forward isn't expected to rack up huge point totals, but he is an energetic player who can contribute in his own way.
However, the selection of Jakub Dobes in the 5th round, 136th overall, was a solid move by Marc Bergevin and the management. The goalie has impressed since arriving in North America in 2023-24 and has climbed the ranks very quickly.
If the 2020 Draft Were Redone Today, Jakub Dobes Would Be a Second-Round Pick
You read that correctly. Of course, redoing a draft isn't an exact science, and everyone has different opinions about certain players.
But after analyzing the entire class, it's clear that Jakub Dobes would be selected in the second round.
With only 16 NHL games under his belt, we can't push him to the very top too quickly, and he could still climb this ranking in the coming months. One thing is certain: the goalie is destined for a bright future!
