At just 24 years old, Jakub Dobes has experienced an emotional rollercoaster over the past few years and delivered solid performances in his NHL debut during the 2024-25 season.

Dobes managed to achieve a very rare feat that shows just how much this young man is destined for a bright future in the big league.
With Samuel Montembeault, Jakub Dobes, and Jacob Fowler, the Montreal Canadiens now rely on several talented goaltenders who can step into the action.Additionally, the arrival of Kaapo Kahkonen brings a veteran presence with experience to the organization.
In 2025, Kent Hughes and the management made two excellent selections by drafting Arseny Radkov, 82nd overall, and Alexis Cournoyer, 145th overall. Last year, the club also turned its pick toward Mikus Vecvanags, 134th overall, but the 19-year-old goalie faced some difficulties in his debut in the QMJHL with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
Samuel Montembeault's progression over the last few years has been very impressive, and he was excellent during the 2025 playoffs against the Washington Capitals. The Quebec native seems to keep improving with each game, and there is no doubt he is currently the trusted man in front of the Tricolore's net.
In 2023-24, Jakub Dobes officially made the jump to North America, and things moved extremely quickly for the native of Ostrava in the Czech Republic. On July 6th 2025, the young man signed a 2-year contract with the Canadiens, and big changes are underway in his life.
Dobes managed to surprise everyone, and his name quickly circulated all over the NHL last season.

Jakub Dobes achieved a very rare feat in the National Hockey League and is destined for a bright future with the Montreal Canadiens

By analyzing Jakub Dobes' statistics, one quickly realizes how extraordinary this young man's story really is.
In the last five years, only two goaltenders selected in the 5th round or later have managed to play one or more NHL games: Jakub Dobes, 5th round in 2020 (136th overall), and Devon Levi, 7th round in 2020 (212th overall).
In 2019, a certain Dustin Wolf, 7th round (214th overall), also saw action in the world's best hockey league, as did Arturs Silovs, 6th round (156th overall).
Trent Miner, 7th round (202nd overall), also added his name to the list after playing two games with the Colorado Avalanche.
Jakub Dobes, Devon Levi, Dustin Wolf, Arturs Silovs, and Trent Miner are therefore the only ones to have reached the NHL after being drafted in the 5th round or later since 2019.
