Tyler Pitlick has gone through waivers, and his name has resurfaced around the Canadiens.

The Minnesota Wild placed him on waivers on November 30, 2025. The following day, he went unclaimed and therefore cleared waivers. Tyler Pitlick is back on waivers as the Wild look to free up roster space, a clear sign he has fallen out of their regular lineup plans.
If Pitlick clears waivers on Friday, the Wild will be able to assign him to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Iowa Wild.
In this type of situation, Montreal always has an interest in taking a look, because it costs nothing in draft picks.
The connection to Kent Hughes is simple and very concrete. On February 14, 2022, the GM acquired Tyler Pitlick in the trade that sent Tyler Toffoli to Calgary. From there, we already know exactly what type of player we are looking at, without fooling ourselves.

Here is the confirmation:

Pitlick (MIN) on waivers"

- Elliotte Friedman
Pitlick is 34 years old, listed at 6 feet 2 and 199 pounds. He was also the 31st overall pick in 2010, which gives him a long track record in hockey.
This season with the Wild, he has played 23 games, with 1 goal, 1 point, a -1 rating, and 24 penalty minutes. When a veteran posts that kind of stat line, it's easy to understand why he ends up on waivers.
So, should the Montreal Canadiens have been tempted? Only if the organization had an immediate need in the bottom-6, without wanting to burn a roster spot unnecessarily.
A waiver claim also means freeing up a seat and managing ice time. Waiver priority also depends on the reverse order of the standings, and that changes the calculation.
In the end, this situation is mostly a reminder. Tyler Pitlick is a familiar name in Montreal, but he has already gone through waivers without being claimed. If he becomes available again later on, then yes, it could once again become a real discussion.
