As we mentioned yesterday, Kent Hughes was on the verge of making an important signing for the future of the Montreal Canadiens.

Indeed, with all the young players coming through the Laval Rocket, we had heard about the possibility of extending the contract of the current coach, Jean-François Houle.
This has now been confirmed, according to David Pagnotta.
"Since I'm talking coaches this morning... Hearing the #GoHabsGo AHL affiliate Laval Rocket have agreed to a new multi-year contract with Head Coach J-F Houle."

- David Pagnotta

This is excellent news for the young players, as Houle is truly capable of preparing them for the NHL. This is the most significant part of his job.
We only need to look at Arber Xhekaj's performance when he returned from Laval. He was playing in the top 4 alongside David Savard, whereas before he was regularly benched and even relegated to the AHL.
Logan Mailloux seems ready to make the leap, Joshua Roy was ready during his second recall... in short, Houle is very solid and understands his job perfectly.
The Rocket fielded a very young team last year and narrowly missed the AHL playoffs.
With Houle at the helm and perhaps Paul Byron as a new assistant, the future of the Canadiens is in good hands!
