The Canadiens need reinforcements upfront, and some very good news seems to be on the verge of being confirmed for Kent Hughes.

Indeed, the young prospect Oliver Kapanen, who is currently the leading goal scorer in the World Championship as of writing these lines, would sign his entry-level contract in the NHL after the tournament.

At least that's what Luc Gélinas from RDS reports.

"Young Oliver Kapanen, who is having a fantastic tournament, would like to reach an agreement with the Canadiens, but he is focused on the World Championship. Kent Hughes met with his agent in Helsinki, at the World Juniors, and they agreed to talk again after this tournament."

This is really good news because the young man is steadily coming out of his shell, and he could already be ready to compete at the NHL level.

The only downside is that he has signed a two-season contract in the Liiga and must honor at least one of these two years. So theoretically, he would arrive in Montreal in 2025.

It is also worth mentioning that his current team's general manager in Finland is his father, so an amicable agreement is always possible without making too many waves.

If Kapanen really signs in Montreal in the next few days and can come play in North America for the next season, it would be a serious asset for Martin St-Louis.

He's very dominant in front of the opposing net and tough to retrieve pucks from.

We'll see in the coming days if it happens, but keep this name in mind.
