Since his rookie year in the NCAA, where he posted astounding statistics, Jacob Fowler is considered by many to be a future star goaltender in the NHL.
There are prominent figures, like Ryan Whitney, who say he is a blend of all the best goaltenders of all time, including Patrick Roy, Martin Brodeur, and Dominik Hasek. He truly has something special.
In his first year with Boston College, he had a record of 32-6-1, with a 2.14 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage. That's really excellent.
This compares favorably to
Jakub Dobes at the same age, who had a 2.26 average and a .934 save percentage in the NCAA as well.
Both sets of statistics are impressive, and we can already see Dobes making strides in professional hockey.
Moreover, according to reports from Max Truman, many members of the Canadiens' management have high hopes for both goaltenders.
Anthony Marcotte, the voice of the Laval Rocket, is well-positioned to speak on this, having seen the most-used goaltender in the American League play in front of him at every game last season.
I'm not saying Jacob Fowler isn't good or that Jakub Dobes will be better, but rather that in the eyes of the organization, neither currently has the upper hand.
