Joel Armia, the misunderstood, traded by Kent Hughes and the Canadiens?
Everyone's focus is on the draft and the trade market, awaiting the Canadiens' next top-six forward.
But there are also players Kent Hughes can trade who aren't part of the club's future plans. Joel Armia is one such player.
Armia had a strong end to the season, making him attractive. He has impressive skills, but only shows them in every fourth game, which is an issue.
According to an article from TVA Sports, Armia interests a few teams, and if Hughes has the chance to trade him, he should.
At $3.4 million for one more year, the return wouldn't be huge for the Canadiens, but if Hughes retains some of his salary or adds a draft pick, it could be better than losing him for nothing.
"That's the most likely scenario. It would be surprising if the Canadiens kept No. 40, so why not trade him when his value is highest? The $3.4 million he earns would be much easier for a team to handle if they acquire him during the summer, especially as the salary cap is set to increase significantly for the upcoming season.
The Habs could still take on another contract in return or absorb part of the deal to facilitate the trade. Kent Hughes has space to absorb part of a player's contract he trades. "
With 17 goals last season, a career high, Armia showed he can play on a third line and be reliable, plus he has the size for the job.
While he's not very consistent during the season, he was very good in the playoffs, which earned him his nice contract.
If he doesn't move this summer, a contending team might well need his services by the trade deadline.
