Since the Montreal Canadiens players have the day off today, there's less news about the team, but it's always nice to get an update on some prospects.

After Cole Caufield in 2019 and Lane Hutson in 2022, the organization once again bet on a small, creative, and explosive player who could turn out to be a big winning gamble for the club.
The name of L.J. Mooney, selected 113th overall, is already circulating a lot among fans, especially since he was seen in his new college uniform.

The Montreal Canadiens believe in L.J. Mooney's offensive talent despite his small stature

In an article from La Poche Bleue, it is noted that Mooney measures only 5-foot-7, but he has talent reminiscent of a first-round pick. It's also worth noting that the young prospect has already grown since being drafted.
"Kid grew an inch since the draft!😂

FWIW, if I'm not mistaken, he was listed at 5'7, 157 lbs when he was drafted"
Former defenseman and analyst Gilbert Delorme summed up the excitement by saying that this type of player can change a game with his creativity and speed.
It is also pointed out that at the Canadiens' development camp, he stood out quickly.
"Thanks to his creativity and speed, he distinguished himself among his peers, hinting at a promising future within the Montreal organization." - Gilbert Delorme
For the 2025-2026 season, he will play with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers in the NCAA, a competitive environment that will put his talent to the test.
I believe this stint in the NCAA is a crucial step, as it will allow him to show whether he can dominate against bigger and faster opponents.
Fans hope he can follow in the footsteps of a Caufield or a Hutson, who were also labeled as "small but special."
I'm really looking forward to keeping an eye on his development!
