Kent Hughes wants to improve the Canadiens in the short term without compromising the future of the organization.

This will be very complicated because to receive, you have to give. Hughes undoubtedly wants to hit a home run, but it's difficult. Other general managers also want good returns.

In my opinion, the trades for Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook are very good deals by the GM. He didn't sacrifice the future and addressed a need.

Imagine if he could now draft at the 5th and 6th spots!

The Utah team has indeed placed its 6th overall pick on the market. I don't know what Kent Hughes could offer them, but if he can add, say, Ivan Demidov and Cayden Lindstrom, or Sam Dickinson, it would be really significant for the club's future.

"As we discussed, Utah is willing to trade the 6th overall pick in this month's NHL Draft." - David Pagnotta

So, it's confirmed, the 6th overall pick is available. We know that Hughes is looking to move up from his 26th overall pick and has plenty of prospects and picks.

Without touching the future top 4 defensemen, the Canadiens' GM could include his 26th pick and add more to draft at the 6th spot.

The scenario is worthy of a Hollywood movie, I agree. But if there is one general manager who can make this transaction work, it's Kent Hughes!

Personally, I believe Utah will want a star player. Mitch Marner's name is circulating a lot in rumors. A player who would instantly become the face of the new franchise.

The Canadiens don't have that type of player to offer. The Leafs, on the other hand, could greatly benefit from the 6th overall pick to select an excellent young defenseman like Sam Dickinson, who is from the Toronto area.
