The NHL draft will take place on June 28 and 29 in Las Vegas, and already two names are capturing attention for the Canadiens at the 5th pick: Ivan Demidov and Cayden Lindstrom.

While Lindstrom is already assured, according to the rankings, to go in the top 5, Demidov is starting to drop like his compatriot Matvei Michkov did last year.
It was believed there were no red flags in his case, unlike the Flyers' prospect, but they are starting to emerge. Kent Hughes has just received a solid warning.
Indeed, the head coach of SKA St. Petersburg, Roman Rotenberg, mentioned that Demidov has a contract with them until the end of next season and they want him to honor his contract.
"Rotenberg also made sure to clarify that SKA needed him for the next season and that he would undoubtedly continue his development in his home country." - Via GoNordiques

Well, well! While we thought Demidov would arrive in the NHL this season and had no blockages or contracts to honor, it is finally the opposite.
If Michkov fell to the 7th pick last year and should have, according to many, gone 2nd, the scenario might well repeat itself with Demidov in 2024.
If he is available at the 5th pick, will Kent Hughes decide to select him? Will he dare, in your opinion?
