At a time when the Montreal Canadiens are trying to regain some stability after two really difficult weeks, the concern surrounding Alex Newhook is intense.

But well, that's part of the game.
A heavy sequence to watch, a violent collision into the boards, then silence.

The absence of Alex Newhook and the impact on the Montreal Canadiens

Martin St-Louis was direct when asked for an update.
According to the post shared on X, he clearly said:
"I didn't see Alex this morning. For sure he's going to miss some time. It's not easy for a player who was having a good start to the season."

Martin St-Louis' expression says a lot.
Indeed, the 24-year-old had been having strong moments since the beginning of the season, with 6 goals and 6 assists.
Newhook was perhaps playing his best hockey since arriving in Montreal.
He is known for being a speed merchant.
An injury like this can have long-term effects.
In addition, the chemistry between Demidov, Kapanen, and Newhook was one of the team's greatest sources of stability.
His absence therefore forces the Canadiens to reinvent themselves.
A good opportunity for Martin St-Louis to shake things up. However, he's already receiving a lot of criticism over his decision making...
One thing is certain: the coming weeks will require plenty of adaptation from the players, but also from the coaches.
It's in difficult moments like these that we see the character of a young group.

How the Canadiens can respond without Alex Newhook

This heavy loss has a direct impact on the special teams.
Newhook had a key role on the penalty kill.
As we saw yesterday, the captain will now have more on his shoulders in shorthanded situations.
For now, all the Canadiens can do is move forward despite the bad news.
There's no good timing, and this certainly isn't one.
In sports, they often say next man up. It will take more than the captain to help the team get back on track.
