In an interview with TVA Sports, Kent Hughes revealed that his contract negotiations with Geoff Molson took very little time.

When asked if money was a factor in the discussion, Hughes was very clear:
"The negotiations took 15 minutes, so I'd say money wasn't the most important thing. For me, the most important thing is continuing the work I've started." he said.
According to TVA Sports journalist Jonathan Bernier, this quick process truly shows the stability currently within the organization.
And as Pierre LeBrun reported, it's even possible that Hughes deliberately left some money on the table to stay in Montreal.
Hughes also admitted that his early years in Montreal tested his patience:
"Sometimes, I had to be patient. You want to win, but you know you have to trust the process."
Today, the general manager feels that the Canadiens are finally beginning to reap the rewards of that long process:
