The rumor sending Tage Thompson to the Montreal Canadiens made a lot of noise earlier this week, and many fans started to believe it.

But now new information shared by Renaud Lavoie completely changes everything.
"Several teams - including the Montreal Canadiens and Vancouver Canucks - have contacted Buffalo to inquire about the direction the Sabres plan to take with their star forward."

- Marco D'Amico
Then the proposals came:
"If Kevyn Adams says yes to that (Slafkovsky for Thompson), I'll drive Slaf to Buffalo myself!

Honestly, I'll sit him in my car and take him across the Niagara Falls border.

If the only thing it costs you to get Tage Thompson is Juraj Slafkovsky, come on...

You put Demidov on the first line, you put Tage Thompson on the second line Come on, it's done!"

- Max Lalonde
He explained that this story simply didn't make any sense.
He even admitted that he was surprised to see it gain so much traction in a single day.
And that's when the entire rumor collapsed...
It's too bad because it would have been really fun!

Why Renaud Lavoie considers a Tage Thompson arrival in Montreal impossible

In Lavoie's eyes, the idea of Buffalo trading Thompson makes almost no sense.
He even compares him directly to Nick Suzuki and Lane Hutson.
He explained it very clearly:
"I'd say dream, but believing it could happen one day? No. There was a lot of buzz today about the Canadiens supposedly contacting the Sabres to find out if Thompson was available. That's a very surprising piece of information, and I can tell you it doesn't match what I know about the situation. Tage Thompson is like Rasmus Dahlin. You can compare them to Nick Suzuki and Lane Hutson with the Habs."

- Renaud Lavoie
According to Lavoie, this type of player simply doesn't move.
He describes him as a pillar, a real "backbone" for the organization, and I completely agree...
Even if Buffalo is going through a difficult period, no one wants to panic or trade their best goal scorer.
With two seasons of over 40 goals and a more than reasonable contract, the idea of a trade becomes almost impossible.
Personally, I fully understand Lavoie's logic.
The Canadiens must aim for something more realistic, because Thompson is more of a dream than a real option.
