The Canadiens already have a solid goaltending duo with Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau, but Kent Hughes is still exploring available young goaltenders.

Indeed, the GM was at the top of the list to acquire Yaroslav Askarov, according to several sources, and when asked to comment on the rumors, he preferred to stay silent to avoid trouble.

If he had never tried to acquire him, he could have simply said he had no interest, but that's not the case, clearly.

In any case, the future goalie is already in the organization with Jacob Fowler. The 3rd-round pick in 2023, 69th overall, was spectacular in his NCAA debut with Boston College, boasting an impressive record of 32-6-1, a 2.14 goals-against average, and a .926 save percentage.

Moreover, two of his teammates had very high praise for him, and it's certainly reached Kent Hughes and the Canadiens.

"He's a pillar. I don't think people realize how good he is." - Will Smith on Jacob Fowler

"He's one of the best goalies I've ever played with in my life." - Cutter Gauthier on Jacob Fowler

We're talking about two very high-quality NHL prospects, who will be playing for San Jose and Anaheim, respectively. According to them, Jacob Fowler will make a significant impact in the NHL, and the Canadiens have a very promising goalie on their hands.
