What caught our attention in the executive vice president's speech was his mention that there is no surplus of defensemen and that the young players could start in Laval.
When considering those who are on the cusp of making their NHL debut, Lane Hutson and David Reinbacher immediately come to mind.
Logan Mailloux was already playing for the Rocket last year, so he's off the list. However, that doesn't guarantee he'll have a spot with the Canadiens.
Renaud Lavoie added to the speculation by suggesting that Lane Hutson will start the season with the Rocket. While this wouldn't be the end of the world and everyone would get over it, it raises questions.
This is also reported by the site Danslescoulisses.com, who first picked up Renaud Lavoie's comments.
As Lane Hutson seems to be NHL-ready in the eyes of most, doubts are suddenly creeping in. With his talent, I would personally be surprised if he doesn't start in Montreal, but you never know.
It's clear that the NHL is not a development league, but player development doesn't stop during a career, and I believe Lane Hutson would continue to progress more in the NHL than in the AHL.
