Former Habs forward Jonathan Drouin has joined the Islanders and is expected to play on a top line with Bo Horvat and Kyle Palmieri under coach Patrick Roy.
"Every guy I've talked to loved the Island, loved the area to live, the restaurants, the suburbs and everything. Obviously they have a brand new rink, that's appealing as well. Same thing for practice rink. So every kind of little factor was encouraging for me I heard only good things, so I'm excited and should be a good spot."
A native of Sainte-Agathe, Quebec, Drouin was part of a major trade in June 2017 when then-GM Marc Bergevin acquired him. In return, the Canadiens sent defenseman Mikhail Sergachev to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The left winger had some strong performances in his first two seasons in Montreal, but things unfortunately didn't go as planned afterward. Drouin suffered multiple injuries and missed many games.
In the summer of 2023, he tested free agency for the first time and accepted an offer from the Colorado Avalanche to reunite with his good friend and former Halifax Mooseheads teammate, Nathan MacKinnon.
In 79 games, Drouin recorded 19 goals and 56 points. The following year, injuries once again sidelined him, limiting him to just 43 games in which he collected 11 goals and 37 points.
