Patrick Roy and the Islanders have just sent a strong message to the rest of the NHL, and it's far from over.

Indeed, Casseau and his men secured another victory Thursday night, now overtaking the Capitals for the last playoff spot available.

It's quite a turnaround for them, considering how far behind they seemed not too long ago.

The situation is rather disappointing on the Washington side as they approach the end of the season. Even the Penguins, who were 10 points behind them just a few weeks ago, are catching up.

PHILADELPHIA - 83 POINTS IN 76 GAMES (IN PLAYOFFS)

NEW YORK ISLANDERS - 83 POINTS IN 76 GAMES (IN PLAYOFFS)

WASHINGTON - 82 POINTS IN 75 GAMES (OUT OF PLAYOFFS)

DETROIT - 82 POINTS IN 75 GAMES (OUT OF PLAYOFFS)

PITTSBURGH - 81 POINTS IN 76 GAMES (OUT OF PLAYOFFS)

"So, NYI are in a playoff spot with a 4-2 victory over Columbus...and Penguins are two points out after beating Washington 4-1. Crosby making a late charge at the Hart Trophy." - Elliotte Friedman, Sportsnet

Imagine if the Penguins manage to make the playoffs, how strongly Sidney Crosby will be considered for the Hart Trophy.

The end of the season promises to be very exciting in the Metropolitan Division.
