The veteran goaltender Marc-André Fleury has signed a professional tryout (PTO) with the Pittsburgh Penguins and will play a preseason game at home on September 27.
This news brings a lot of emotions to Penguins fans (and even hockey fans in general), who dreamed of seeing "Flower" in their net one more time.
The 40-year-old goaltender will join the Penguins at practice on Friday, September 26, before taking part in the next day's preseason game against Columbus at PPG Paints Arena.
Dubas did not hide the symbolic importance of this moment.
"The entire organization is honored to welcome Marc-André Fleury back on the ice in Pittsburgh. Everyone knows how respected Marc is in hockey, but the admiration goes beyond his statistics. Marc means so much to our team, our fans, and the city of Pittsburgh, because he is an exemplary person. We believe he deserves to experience this moment to celebrate his journey, where it all began, in front of the faithful in black and gold."
- Dubas
With three Stanley Cups (2009, 2016, and 2017) to his name, Fleury is already a living legend of the Penguins.
In 13 seasons with the team, he set almost every goaltending record in club history, including most wins (375), games played (691), and shutouts (44).
I must admit this return touches me personally, as Marc-André Fleury has always been one of my favorite players.
Seeing him come full circle in Pittsburgh reminds me why we love hockey so much: for these human stories, full of emotion and pride.
