The forward has had a decent season in San Jose under the circumstances, but nothing extraordinary. He has collected 22 points in 61 games, but now he is suffering from a concussion.
Remember, before Marc Bergevin offered him a three-year contract, Hoffman was on a professional tryout contract with the St. Louis Blues, and his future in the NHL was uncertain.
Hoffman didn't seize his opportunity, and now at 34 years old, he is at risk of having to consider playing in another league or retiring.
As a one-dimensional player who absolutely needs to score goals to make an impact, I find it hard to see how a team would want to sign him, especially since he hasn't reached the 20-goal mark in four seasons.
