This is not the first nor the last time that Trevor Zegras is linked to the Canadiens. However, when it comes from an insider like Darren Dreger, we know we can take it seriously.
To acquire a player like Zegras, you have to give. Not just in players, prospects, or picks, but also in salary. Not all teams can take on a contract of over 5 million for another two years without lightening their cap burden.
Here's what Darren Dreger mentioned on the matter:
"Hey, maybe he (Joel Armia) is involved as a complementary player for the Ducks when Kent Hughes gets Trevor Zegras to play with Cole Caufield."
- Darren Dreger
If Kent Hughes is really able to acquire Zegras while getting rid of Joel Armia's contract, it would be a remarkable move. Of course, the Canadiens' GM will have to give much more.
We are likely talking about a young defenseman of the caliber of Kaiden Guhle. Let's see if he is willing to pay this price to make a significant addition to the offense.
