McDavid's Contract Drama Heats Up as Oilers Linked to Red Wings Goalie

Currently, a major problem for the Oilers lies in goal, but they may have now found the perfect target to fix the situation.

Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers unfortunately lost twice in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2024 and 2025.

The Alberta team would like to find solutions to defeat the powerful Florida Panthers, but Stan Bowman hasn't done anything very conclusive so far this summer.

Bowman lost the services of Corey Perry and traded Evander Kane. He made a notable acquisition by bringing Isaac Howard into the ranks, but the young man hasn't even played a single NHL game yet.

Then, the GM has not made any major changes on defense or with his goaltenders so far, even though these are clearly the most obvious problems on Edmonton's side.

He certainly wants to try to fix the situation around Connor McDavid, since the captain could become a free agent next summer. However, talks are at a standstill right now, and the organization's fans are worried.

According to some rumors circulating currently, Bowman was actively looking at Detroit Red Wings goalie Sebastian Cossa.

At 6'6", 229 lbs, the 22-year-old goalie is one of the most promising young players and is destined for a bright future.

The only questionable point regarding Cossa and the Oilers is that he has played only one NHL game, and the Alberta team wants to win the big honors right now. So that would quickly put huge pressure on his shoulders.
