While he was a guest on Tony Marinaro's Sick Podcast, analyst and former NHL player Philippe Boucher suggested a major trade for the Habs that could certainly change the future of the organization.
He said that if he were Kent Hughes, he would seriously consider trading his 5th overall pick to move down a few spots, if of course, the organization does not want to take a chance with Matvei Michkov.
According to Boucher, this trade would allow the addition of a future star player.
I really don't hate Boucher's idea about a potential selection of Benson. He certainly has elite talent, having been perceived as a top-5 player at the beginning of the year.
One thing should be clarified, he may slide towards the end of the top-10 not because of a bad season, but because of the emergence of some other prospects who have more advantageous sizes.
As he is only 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs only 160 pounds, Benson could be overlooked by some teams who would like to add some heaviness to their lineup, like a Ryan Leonard, Matthew Wood, or Dalibor Dvorsky, for instance.
However, his size is far from being a negative factor in his case, because in addition to being an extremely talented forward, he plays big and he likes being in the traffic, which is uncommon for a player of his caliber.
In fact, a trade proposition was even raised yesterday, in relation with a potential step back from the Canadiens in the draft. According to this proposition, Kent Hughes could possibly acquire the 9th and 17th, in return for the 5th overall pick.
In 60 games this season, Benson compiled a record of 36 goals and 62 assists for a total of 98 points.
If the Canadiens added a Zach Benson, following a trade also bringing the 17th draft pick, in return for the 5th pick, would you be satisfied with this scenario?
