Another transaction like Sean Monahan's this summer for the Canadiens?

The excellent Marco Normandin from HabsolumentFan.com has raised a very interesting and plausible trade proposal for the Montreal Canadiens.

This trade could become another very interesting move, similar to what Kent Hughes did last summer with Sean Monahan, acquiring the final year of his contract in exchange for a first round pick.

In essence, due to the emergence of young goaltender Joseph Woll in Toronto, the Maple Leafs might want to shed the hefty $4.687 million contract of veteran Matt Murray in order to re-sign restricted free agent Ilya Samsonov.

With very little financial maneuverability and several impending free agents this summer, the Leafs will have to make serious decisions regarding multiple potential departures.

By unloading Murray's contract, the organization can gain some relief that would allow them to extend certain contracts.

For the Canadiens, this trade would not only enable them to acquire a prospect or a high draft pick but also provide an opportunity to negotiate Jake Allen, which could add an additional asset to the organization.

Furthermore, given Murray's well-known fragility, the 28-year-old goaltender will inevitably find himself on the injured list at some point in the season, which would open the door for Cayden Primeau to solidify his place in Montreal.

If the Maple Leafs were to offer Matt Murray and a 2024 first round pick to absorb his contract, would you accept it?
